World Social Workers' Day 2014

Professional Social Workers’ Association (PSWA) is a legally registered membership association of professionally qualified social workers across the country. Since 1985, PSWA has been in the forefront for the recognition and development of the social work profession and the rights of the social work professionals.

The members are persons with Post Graduate Degree in Social Work (Masters in Social Work) from regular schools of social work recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC)

World Social Workers’ Day

Internationally, the World Social Workers’ Day is celebrated on the third Tuesday of March every year. This year the third Tuesday of March falls on 18th March 2014. 2014 marks the completion of 75 years of social work professional education and practice in India.

This year International Federation of Social Workers (IFSW) has declared the theme as “social work solutions for Socio Economic Crises in societies and peoples throughout the world”

The celebration of the day worldwide marks the conglomeration of social workers at their own countries and spaces to come together and share the best feeling of being a professional social worker.

PSWA’s World Social Workers’ Day 2014

PSWA as an organization of professionally qualified social workers is natural to celebrate the day in solidarity with the global social work fraternity.

PSWA for the second consecutive year is organizing the World Social Workers’ Day 2014 with a “Run for the Cause”. The run is scheduled to be held between 7.00 am and 8. 00 am on 18th March 2014 near Mahatma Gandhi Statue in Marina Beach, Chennai.

Mr. Neville J. Bilimoria, renowned Marathon runner has consented to flag off the social workers’ day run and Dr. Kannan Pugazhendi, Celebrity Sports Physician and Director of SPARRC will be the special guest who will be present with his professional team like last year to help the runners in Warming up before the run and to help in cooling down after.

Social Work Professionals, Faculty and students of Schools of Social Work and all the concerned citizens shouldering the social work professionals in the field in addressing the socio economic concerns are expected to participate in the run to be held on the day.
